Aussie Fashion Giant Gives $20,000 To A KnockOff As Best Dressed

Would you expect $60 knockoff to fetch anything but embarrassment for the person who wears it competing in a fashion competition?

Unbelievably, this wasn’t the case with Stephanie Martin from Brisbane, QLD, Australia who competed in the country’s largest fashion competition held by the chain of department stores Myer on Saturday 11 January 2014 wearing a knockoff Alberta Ferretti dress from Spring 2014 collection (not available in stores yet).

Not only Ms Martin passed the heats, semi-finals, elevated to the top 10 and announced as the winner, but she also walked away with over $20,000 in prizes, including a diamond from Calleja Jewellers, shopping sprees and all-expenses-paid trip for two.

Stephanie Martin was also crowned as the State Winner of the National Fashions on the Field Competition, which would see her competing in Australian National Finals during Melbourne Cup 2014 as one of only seven “best dressed” women in the country. Her blue and orange striped technicolor dress was a knockoff of Alberta Ferretti dress from Spring 2014 collection and purchased online for about $60, as the winner confessed to the media.

Judging panel of the competition included several Australian fashion designers, editor in chief of a large fashion magazine, head of buying department for Myer and several well known personalities.

The identical knockoff dress is listed for sale on AliExpress for $69 here: http://www.aliexpress.com/store/product/2014-Spring-Runway-Fashion-Stripe-Print-Skirt-Suits-A-Pattern-Pocket-Skirt-Colorful-Vest-Top-1Set/115714_1440095500.html
